Michael Kopech pitched a four-hitter along with 10 strikeouts to lead the Mount Pleasant Tigers to a 7-0 baseball victory over the Greenville Lions at John Mason Field Monday.
Mount Pleasant is now 8-12 overall and 5-4 in District 13-4A, while Greenville drops to 0-8 in 13-4A play.
“We started out too slow,” said Greenville coach Cody Salyers. “We’ve got to play the game with more intensity and cut down on our errors. Playing catchup is hard on anybody.”
Hayden Stuart went 2-for-3 for the Lions, while Luke Dyer and Travis Koger went 1-for-3.
The Lions made five errors and could never mount any kind of rally against the Tigers’ right-hander Kopech.

The Greenville Lady Lions exploded for six runs in the fourth inning to pull away from Mount Pleasant for a 12-2 District 13-4A softball victory on Monday at Monty Stratton Field.
The Lady Lions, who pounded 16 hits, improved to 3-6 in district play, keeping their playoff hopes alive.
Rachael Cook, Megan Shaw and Ashley Walden all pounded three hits apiece to lead the Lady Lions. Cook tripled. Shaw hit three doubles.
Alison Threndyle, Katie Threndyle and Sidney Tippit collected two hits apiece for Greenville.
Cook took the mound win, allowing only three hits and two walks while striking out five.

Courtney Salinas struck out eight to claim the mound win and also drove in three runs.
Candice Horrocks scored three runs for Cumby, now 4-3 in district play.

LONE OAK — Chasity Hayden struck out five and drove in seven runs to lead the Lone Oak Lady Buffs to a 13-3 District 18-2A softball romp over Alba-Golden on Monday.
Hayden allowed only four hits, one walk and one earned run on the mound. She also went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and a grand slam homer to end the game in the fifth due to the 10-run rule.
Breigh Renner managed three hits and four runs and Georganna Goodwin scored three runs for Lone Oak.

The Panthers took advantage of five hits and seven Lone Oak errors.
Austyn Hooten took the mound loss despite striking out 11. Zach Douglas also struck out two in an inning of relief.
Hooten led Lone Oak at the plate with a pair of hits, including a double.
Nick Goodwin, Ty Tolleson, Andrew Nichols and Kyle Crow all drove in runs for Lone Oak.
